ACTIVE AGING: NO PLACE LIKE FOAM (Workshop 1-2 hours)

This exploratory session addresses foam rolling for the Active Ager. Self-care is increasingly important to incorporate into our daily activity to ensure that our body functions optimally. Get “on a roll” to evaluate and experience safe methods of myofascial release, including self-massage, to manage reduced flexibility, accumulated injuries and decreased mobility and circulation for the 50+ market. Start with a researched-based lecture portion and end with a simple but creative foam-rolling activity session to accommodate this fast-growing segment of the population. (Equipment: Soft Long Foam Roller – white if Power Systems model)


AQUATIC SILVER SOLUTIONS (Workshop 1-2 hours)

Active agers thrive in the water. The special needs of this growing population are addressed in a creative and educational format that is easy to take home and apply. Researched and documented, a complete protocol for exercise adaptations is reviewed. Discover six new 64-count choreography blocks of fun, low-impact aqua exercises that address the special needs of the 50+ population: reduced flexibility accumulated injuries and decreased mobility and circulation.


CHAIR YOGA FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART (Workshop / Class 1.5-1 hours)

This creative workshop focuses on yoga postures done with the support of a chair. Seated and Standing work poses are beautifully blended into asanas that encompass a creative strength building and flexibility-promoting workout. A union of mind, body and spirit are at the heart of this program with special attention focused on activities of daily living and the ability to rise, fall and flow by oneself. Supported by a group of like-minded individuals, this program has far-reaching positive effects on aging exercisers of all shapes and sizes, building communities with a mindful attention to self-awareness. EXERCISE & AGING: BEST PRACTICE PROGRAMMING (Lecture 1-2 hours)

By the year 2030, the fastest growing segment of the population with be the 85+ individual. There will be 70 million 65 year olds and older. This staggering shift in societal demographics promises to have tremendous impacts on our economic, social and physical well-being. Both land and water programming for group fitness professionals and personal trainers alike will be addressed.


STRENGTH TRAINING FOR LONGEVITY & VITALITY (Workshop 1-1.5 hours)

Whether a personal quest or way to engage the fastest growing segment of the population, this workout presents effective and manageable training techniques for the 50+ population. Led by an icon in the fitness industry, Sara takes you through this Group Strength Class using simple exercises and portable equipment for a total body workout. Strength, endurance, flexibility and balance are the lenses we use when analyzing our programming. YOGA FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART (Workshop / Class 1.5-1 hours)

Yoga has positive effects on inevitable decreases in power, strength, aerobic capacity and flexibility that occur after age 50. This session integrates both mat and chair yoga and focuses on maintaining independence, avoiding injuries and improving quality of life. Postural alignment, muscle/movement balances and maintenance of mobility create a union of traditional and restorative yoga perfect for active 50-90 year olds. A summary of the aging process blends with practical recommendations regarding safe and effective movement for multiple yoga poses creating vinyasas that every instructor can utilize. (Equipment: 1 or 2 Yoga Mats per person & Chairs)
